The ‘Manpower’ dream team featuring Jamie Durie (3rd from the left).

  1. Jamie Durie

Jamie Durie began his male stripping career with the internationally recognised male revue show “Manpower” (now ‘Thunder From Down Under’).
Jamie was recruited by the show at a young age due to his looks, athletic body and acrobatic ability. He was one of the first members of Manpower, and helped them build an international brand that would later become one of the most successful male strip shows in history.

Jamie was a stripper for Manpower for 7 years, as a lead dancer, costume designer and manager. His time as a male stripper gave him the opportunity to appear on live TV all over the world, grace magazine covers, calendars, merchandise and news articles.
After his early retirement from male stripping, he completed a 4 year degree in horticultural studies.
Since then Jamie has worked his way to become the official host of “Backyard Blitz” a popular Australian TV series that received national acclaim. He has also appeared on “The Block”, “Dancing With The Stars” and “Australia’s Best Backyards”.

Due to his close relationship with Oprah Winfrey, he was able to secure a position as the host for PBS’s “The Victory Garden” in the United States.

Jamie also owns a outdoor garden design and merchandise company, that is in high demand worldwide.
Given all the above allocates, I think it’s safe to say Jamie has made a name for himself since his humble beginnings as a true male stripper.

2. Channing Tatum

One of the most recognisable names in the list, A-list celebrity actor Canning Tatum spent 8 months working as a male stripper in Tampa, Florida, to pay his bills as a struggling model.
His unique performing style and look was different from all the other male strippers he worked with, and earned him a reputation with the ladies who frequented the male strip club he worked at.
Most male strippers at that time has overly muscular bodies and long hair, however Channing was thin, had short hair and was described to have a ‘abercrombie & fitch’ look, whilst his moves on stage were very hip-hop orientated, completely different to the normal jazz style of dancing to rock music.

Channing Tatum’s first big break was as a dancer on Ricky Martin’s music video “She Bangs”
Since then, Channing worked under huge model agency giants ‘Page 305’ and ‘Ford Models’.

His early modelling career landed him campaigns in Abercrombie & Fitch, Dolce and Gabbana & Emporio Armani.
He progressed from being an internationally recognised model to having small appearances in films.
His first big film break was as a troubled youth in the film ‘Coach Carter’. Since then his rise to international fame and celebrity status was history.

Rare photos have re-surfaced recently of Channing Tatum’s male stripper life in Tampa, Florida.

3. London Steele

London Steele (centre) today, with the ‘King’s Of Hustlers’ boys outside their Las Vegas venue.

A seasoned veteran of the male stripping world, London Steele owned the famous club and male revue show in Tampa “Male Encounter”. He was the first person (as described by Channing Tatum himself) to see talent in a young Channing Tatum, and give him work in his male strip show.

The film ‘Magic Mike’ was loosely based off Channing’s short experience in the male strip show Male Encounter, and the character of the MC/host (played by Mathew McConaughey) was inspired by London Steel himself.
The way Mathew McConaughey spoke, dressed, acted and danced is considered by many to be incredibly similar to how London Steel was back then.
Channing’s character of Magic Mike was based off his fellow stripper Michael Sorrentino, who originally sported the nick name “Magic” (as claimed by Sorrentino), due to his style of dancing to techno music and dressing in black leather.

London started his stripping career with the ‘Florida Suncoast Calendar Men’. A respected an well known male strip show in southern US.
In the peak of his male stripping London featured in films “Mortal Kombat”, “Thunder in Paradise”, “Sea Quest” and “Boys will be Boys”. He has also appeared on ABC’s “To Tell The Truth” and TMZ.
London was also the creator and founder of Las Vegas’s “Men of Steele”, his own vision of a modern male strip show to rival the giants of the industry. Since founding Men of Steele, he sold the show and now is the manager of the “King’s of Hustler” male revue in Las Vegas.

4. Tristan “Tristar”

Tristan (nicknamed ‘tristar’) Is a UK based male strip show owner and innovative creator of the ‘male cabaret’ strip performance style.
During his college years Tristan worked and manager various bars/nightclubs in Brighton, England. At the age of 21 he became of the licensee and owner of his own bar, and at the time was the youngest bar owner in the UK.

After selling his bar not long after, Tristan tried to make his way into the acting/modelling/dancing industry by working with touring entertainment shows in Europe. Tristan answered an advertisement in an industry paper, which offered free flights, accommodation, dinner and a basic salary dancing in a club in Vienna, Austria. The dancing turned out to be male lap-dancing and his male stripping journey was born.

Tristan quickly built up a recognition in Europe and worldwide as a solo act in the adult entertainment industry. His unique mix of circus elements, acrobatics, striptease and comedy gave him a competitive edge of individuality.

His different style of performing couldn’t even be put into the category of ‘male stripping’ so ‘male cabaret’ was born. A different style of striptease, with a focus on entertainment over self-indulgent seduction and sleaze as seen predominately worldwide.
Tristan introduced comedy to the male stripping industry, which in fact was more of a ‘turn on’ for the majority of women than seeing a man who was dead serious on stage.

He quickly rose to fame, appearing on international TV, interviews, published articles, photoshoot’s and even appearances on British TV sitcom ‘Eastenders’.
Tristan later founded one of the UK’s most popular male strip shows “Adonis Cabaret”, which has worked with celebrities, TV shows, news outlets and even a dedicated touring team for Europe, which made headlines around the globe.

Tristan is considered to be the godfather of male stripping in the UK, and his constant creation of new, fresh and innovative idea’s always seems to keep the international male stripping community on the edge of their seat.

5. Michael Rapp

I would like to finish off this list with the legendary Michael Rapp.
Michael was part of the original group of Chippendale’s back when they first started in Los Angeles in 1979. He was the lead dancer and a crowd favorite to the women . Michael was the image of the Chippendale’s and one of the reason’s why they soared to international fame and success.

Since the Chippendale’s basically pioneered and created male stripping as we know it today, one could argue that Michael Rapp was one of the creators of the male striptease genre and movement.

Michael was famous for his long black hair, his use of stage props (motorcycle, a bed and silk acrobatics), however it was his stage presence and charisma that really set him aside from the rest, making him almost a household name at one point in his career.

Michael was on calendars, TV, radio and news all over the USA when Chippendales busted on the scene, and he is well known to have appeared in the films, “Tall, Dark and Handsome”, “Muscle Motion” and “Chippendales - off the cuff”.
